Science and Agriculture

At GHS the Science and Agriculture faculty aims to provide a challenging curriculum that strives to meet the needs of students by:

  • Providing the necessary background and skills to enable them to become scientifically literate in order to make responsible decisions within the world

  • Actively involving them in problem-solving, qualitative and quantitative analyses, and verbal and written communications

  • Developing their appreciation of science as an investigative process rather than as merely a body of knowledge.

Through the core subject of Science, students in Years 7 to 10 are taught are a range of scientific investigation skills as well as content from the following topics, Physics World, Chemical World, Living World and Earth and Space. The Science and Agriculture Faculty are a dedicated team of teachers who have a range expertise in teaching a number of different Science disciplines and can, therefore, offer the following Senior Science courses at GHS;

  • Physics

  • Chemistry

  • Biology

  • Earth and Environmental Science

  • Investigating Science

  • Agriculture

  • Primary Industries

  • Marine Studies


 

The GHS Science Faculty offer a range of opportunities for students to explore the world of Science outside the classroom, including excursions to Heron Island, Sydney visiting Science faculties of major universities, ANSTO, Australian Museum and RPA Medical facility, Local environment excursions to Arrawarra. Students are given the opportunity to mix with other Science minded students at events like the Science and Engineering Challenge. Agriculture students have the opportunity to participate in Agricultural Field days as well as excursions to local agricultural industries.
